Since its inception, the Roanoke Valley Association of REALTORS has aimed to protect the private property rights of those within the Roanoke Valley, advocating not only for the rights of real estate professionals but homebuyers, sellers and renters as well.

Serving more than 1,400 members and 300 affiliates in residential and commercial real estate, the Association has established itself as the region's authority on industry insights and a prominent advocate for key issues facing Valley residents and businesses, including equal housing opportunities, historic preservation, broadband access and economic development.

As we celebrate together, as an Association and as a community, we're excited to share stories of this organization that have shaped the last century, while looking forward to accomplishing many great things together over the next 100 years.RVAR has honored Billy Kingery, of Mountain to Lake Realty, with the 2020 REALTOR of the Year award.

Kingery has been a REALTOR since 1990, serving in various volunteer capacities for RVAR including service on RVAR's Board of Directors and longtime service on RVAR's Governmental Affairs Committee.

When real estate licensees become members of RVAR, they are automatically made members of the Virginia Association of REALTORS (VAR) and the National Association of REALTORS (NAR).
RVAR's membership is not only made up of brokers and agents, but many Affiliate members, such as mortgage companies, home inspectors, and others allied to the industry.
The Roanoke Valley Association of REALTORS was founded in 1921 and is chartered as a non-stock corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia and classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(6) trade association.
For the new real estate licensee, joining RVAR includes joining the Virginia REALTORS (VAR) and the National Association of REALTORS (NAR).
It is membership with the National Association of REALTORS that designates a licensee as a REALTOR.

Enroll in a Principles of Real Estate school.
As a student, you will be trained for the purpose of taking the state licensing exam for a real estate salesperson.
For those who pass the final exam at the school, additional guidance will be provided by the school for taking the state real estate salesperson exam.
