Established in 1917 as Blackhawk Ranch, it went through a series of owners before it was purchased by a developer in 1975, who went on to build a community of 2400 homes on 4200 acres. Much of Blackhawk consists of more than 2000 acres of open space in between the town itself and Mount Diablo State Park.
